I purchased my son a 110cc ATV, not even sure of the make. When I cranked it the first time the spark plug wire & boot started to smoke and fried. I called the company I purchased it from and they sent me a ignition coil along with the spark plug harness attached to it. I replaced it and seemed to be working fine. I never actually drove the ATV after replacing the ignition coil until a month ago. The problem I am having is my battery is always dead after a day. I've gone thru 3 brand new batteries and they continue to die. I charge the battery and reinstall it but the ATV cranks very slow and then starts after several times pushing the start button. Once running it runs fine for about a hour or so and then it wants to stall if I don't keep the gas throttle pushed in a little. I adjusted the idle screw by raising it a bit but have not had a chance to run it again due to the battery problem I'm having. Basically the battery issue is I fully charge it, get the ATV running, ride it, shut it down, try to start it the next day and the battery is dead, even though it is a brand new battery. Could I have incorrectly installed the ignition coil. I hooked up the wires exactly the way they were on the old coil. It seems like something is slowly draining the battery after I shut it down. Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to our little club. First check all the plugs where wire join together make sure they are tight and not grounding against the frame. Second clean all the paint off under the ground wires where they come to the frame engine etc. You may have a bad stator but try the other stuff first. Good Luck Larry

I am new to this site and am having the same problem with my HI-BIRD 250 ATV. I have to charge mine after a couple of hours if I ride without the lights on, I have checked when it's running and it doesn't charge at all while running. I am going to try this fix, if this don't work where is the stator and is there a way to check it? Thanks Razor

There are alot of things that can cause the battery issues you guys and gals are talking about. First, most Chinese atv's come with to small of a battery and thewhen trying to replace with the proper size, the battery housing is also to small. Now the great thing is about these ATV's is the electrical systems are simple. The stators only job is to produce electricity, the coil and plug wire only produce spark, the CDI is like the distributor on a car,and the voltage regulator turns the voltage coming from the stator into usable electricity and sends it throught your bike. First thing is the wire connectors that are on these machines are not the best, so you must carfully make sure they are making good contact. Make sure all connections to from the stator,to the regulator ,coil and CDI are in good shape. ( I am actually replacing as problems accure, these wire connectors with good quality butt end connectors). Check the ground that is located usually on the base of the engine near the starter. Now also there is a main fuse and usually only 1 fuse on these bikes. If there is only a slight connection there your battery will not charge and your battery will not charge when riding. I just had that happen with one of my machines. All of a sudden I noticed I was getting a weak charge and then intermitent starts! The Stator is what makes electricity of course and to check this you must visually inspect the stator. This is easy to do. When looking at both sides of the lower motor area where the gear shifter is. or on the transmission area, you will see a wire harness going into and disappearing into this part of the engine. This is where the stator is located. First to be safe, drain your oil, then remove cables from the battery, then remove the side cover that is usually the left side of the bike if you are sitting on it. Pull the cover off slowly yet firmly, straight off. The stator is a huge magnet that will be attracted to the inner workings of the motor! It is usually attached to the inner side of the cover. It has from 3 to 10 copper wire wound heads. If the stator is bad,you will notice one or more of these heads are burnt up! Now there is a Chinese ATV electricial trouble shooting guide on the web. It is located for free at SUNLATV.COM or just do a yahoo search, trouble shoot chinese ATV electricial. It is going to be a connection issue, not to often the stator goes bad. If you have any other problems I can be found at ATVSUNLSpokane on facebook, I help for free. I have 2 wonderfull 200cc Chinese ATV's. Remember a chinese ATV is a Chinese ATV.

MY CHINESE ATV IS A HART CART AND I HAVE HAD IT FOR 10 YEARS WITH NO PROBLEM. NOW THE BATTERY DOES NOT HOLD A CHARGE AND DRAINS OVERNIGHT. BOUGHT A NEW LAWN MOWER BATTER AND REPLACED IT TWICE. REPLACED VOLTAGE REGULATOR ALSO STILL DRAINS BATTERY OVER NIGHT. WHAT IS NEXT. GOING TO TRY A NEW FOUR WHEELER BATTERY HOPE IT WORKS.

I would try to test the stator...it is probably bad. If you have an electrical tester, pull the connector off of the stator and test any shorts to ground. Usually the white or the yellow wire, or both.

if the engine is running then it must be getting voltage to the coil pack and then to the spark plug but i placed an led on the wires connecting to the battery and the voltage is weak also igot shock from a couple ground wires so i kno theres a short circuit somewhere and maby thats my problem, in turn im not having enough voltage to recharge the battery ,what do i do next

110 cc Giovanni,
Basically quad has had 4 new battery replacements, new spark plug, and 2 inline fuse replacements. While running the quad will either drain the battery on its own, or blow the fuse.
I'm thinking there is a ground somewhere. However there is a security system stock in this. And a black wire coming off the harness which is free hanging for some reason. Please advise any tips.

I am puzzled!!! I have a 2007 taotao 110cc, for some reason after riding for a couple days it drains the battery. But now as soon as I charge it, I turn they key to on and without pressing the ignition button, it starts. What is going on. It also keeps running the battery down and stops running after I turn the key off. It's the fa-g110cc motor.
