I am in Canberra downunder and have a Coolster ATV I bought in 2008 - The picture is off the manual cover - it is only a chain driven 2WD - manual clutch. I have never been sure what capacity engine - which looks like it could be derived from a Honda - has run very well. Only plate I can see is a strip of aluminium on the lower front frame stamped with - *HSLJHFNS118100007* Then on left rear gearbox is stamped - 162FMJ *90030281* Can anybody tell what engine I have from those numbers? My only problems have been - the rear wheels often come loose and need tightening - with the castellated nuts you only have so much choice. Keeping the drive chain tight enough so that the chain stays on needs attention most days if working a lot. The rear fork where it bolts to the "chassis" at a pivot with a simple long bolt & nut is far from well built and allows sideways movement of the fork. That nut needs checking for tightness. Engineering right out of 1800 - when were threaded nut & bolts invented? To sum up, as long as you are a bit mechanical and carry a good kit of tools - a cheap and hardy little toiler which I hope to keep alive for some years yet.

162FMJ is a CG200 engine. Google CG200 engine and see if it looks like yours. If it is air cooled, meaning no radiator, then this is the same engine used in the 1980's series Honda 3 wheelers. It would be called a honda 200E. This is a very popular engine and used in many different name brand bikes. I have a SUNL STA-200 with this type of engine! Use 15w40 oil and change it every 25 hours of use.162FMJ is just the manufactures part number the other long number indicates the engine as it came off the assembly line. Goggle that number and you should find out the manufacturer of the engine! As far as the lug nuts on the rear wheel, make sure they have lock washers and us a bolt locking fluid like LOCK-TITE its a thread locker. You should also use it on alot of other nuts and bolts to. Now the drive chain of course has two chain adjuster bolts to tighten and adjust the chain. But there are also two other bolts that hod the axle assembly in place. You must tighten these bolts down hard. These must be lossened to adjust the chain. See my post under the SUNL section. Coolsters and SUNL's and most other chinese bikes that are made with the CG200 single cylinder engine are all the same and the parts hardly vary! Look at my posts undr SUNL and get info!I run my machines,I have 2 of them, extensivly in the Mt's of Idaho and Washington State. You can friend me at facebook SUNLATVSpokane!

Thanks for that advice - my engine sure looks like some CG200 engines found through Google. When I bought the quad I was told it was a 250cc - and because the manual only mentioned 70-90 & 110cc I was a touch skeptical. But I read where some CG200's have a 250cc version. I will take your advice re Loctite - I might have some if I look hard.

The cg egines be it 200cc or 250 cc are just a little different. Same engine design but the 250cc is a big bore and have bigger liffters and stuff. These engines fall under the veticle engine family, that most tradition old scholl motercycles have. They are a hard working, long lasting engine, the only draw back is there is usually no oil filter. This is why you must change the 15w40 engine oil enery 25 hours of service, also if you can magnitize the oil drain plug that would also help. Always keep the air filter clean, doing that after every dusty ride. This keeps dirt from going into the engine. The newer Chinese ATV's are coming out with Horizontal engines commonly found in scooters with a belt/chain drive system. You are lucky you didn't get one of these. If you need parts here are a few folks that I use, Sunlatvparts.com and motopartsmax.com, both have been great in getting me what I want. Now one thing you have to remember when looking for parts. Chinese ATV's were made with all the current available parts that assemblers could get at the time of assembly. So it usually doesn't matter if you have a Coolster or SUNL or Roketa or what ever. The key is to measure your part and send that info to the parts company with a pic so they can help you. Alot of parts companys like motopartsmax.com will have diagrams and measurements of parts. I find my parts by looking at a wide variaty of Chinese, Japanese,--- ATV's,scooters, motorcycles gocarts ect ect ect. Usually like I said your engine was probably from the Honda Big red 3 wheeler which I think had the CG250 engine where as my CG200 was from the Honda 3 wheeler 200E. Now on the bottom of the gear box there are some numbers, google these numbers and they will give you the manufacturer and CC of your engine. One numer on the informational plarte on the from of my ATV gives me the indication that it is a 250CC ,but the VIN which is stamped to the frame(which you can also google) will show the actual CC of the engine for Licencing purposes. If you send can't find info. Send me the VIN on the frame so I can match it with my 2 rigs which are the same year. More then likely your rig might have been manufactured by menganela electric motor co in China!
