Hi Bird 250cc

My Hi Bird 250cc is about 9 years old. Last time riding it, the starter would turn slow as if the battery was weak. I would put a battery charger booster on the battery & it would still turn slow & both battery wires got so hot, the insulation melted. I replaced both the + & - wires & got a new battery. As soon as I hit the starter button, the wires get super hot & start melting. Is my starter bad? If so, where do I get a new starter & is it hard to remove?
